Can I see messages by date sent or received?


Go to Reports -> Message Log report. Simply select the date or date range you're looking for and apply it as a filter in your message log report. Only messages from those dates will be shown. 


If you only want to see messages from one direction (i.e. only sent or only received messages), you'll need to apply a direction filter as well ("Filter by Sent or Received").
